Mermaids on the Train

18mm, f/4, 1/60 second, ISO 800, +0.7ev

Coney Island‘s annual summer celebration, The Mermaid Parade, was today.  This parade is always held near the summer solstice and marks the beginning of summer in Coney Island.  The parade is family friendly and has many children dressed up as mermaids, and yet, it still has a very adult, burlesque component featuring a good deal of body paint and nudity as well.  As much fun as the parade is, it’s even more exciting to see the mermaids on the subway as they head to the starting point.
