    That is actually a double bass, an instrument that is approximately three times the size of a cello. One easy way to tell the difference between the two instruments is shown in this photo. Cellos have wooden friction pegs at the head of the instrument used for tuning. The much larger strings on double basses require machine heads (geared hardware) to get in tune.
